mclusky*

April 3, 2019

Between 1999 and 2005, a small band from Cardiff, Wales set the world alight....

Okay, okay, we're exaggerating.

Between 1999 and 2005, the abrasive melodies of mclusky set the music world reverberating.....

No, that's not quite right either.

Between 1999 and 2005, mclusky existed and only a few lucky music fans were witnesses to their greatness.

Sadly, that's about right...

When mclusky broke up, their final lineup was Andrew Falkous, Jack Egglestone, and John Chapple. Falkous and Egglestone went on to form Future of the Left and Chapple moved to Australia and formed the band Shooting at Unarmed Men.

Try to find Chapple now and, well, good luck with that.

Future of the Left, though, they've carved out a nice little niche in Great Britain. Mclusky, on the other hand, have become the musical equivalent of a cult movie. Despite popping up for a few benefit shows, mclusky has been non-existent. Until I came across this ad on Facebook.....

How is mclusky reuniting and I'm the only one writing about it? Now they're doing a festival in London? I highly recommend you see what could be a one time show.

Why?

You see that asterisk? Mclusky* is really Future of the Left covering mclusky songs without Chapple (or Harding.) Here's Future of the Left performing Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues about a half a decade back.

I'm not mad, I'm just sayin' if the show is a hit, look for former mcluskys to sue. If it's a dud, don't look for more shows. It's one of those Catch-22's for a musician. Your old songs are more popular than your new songs, and you'd like to keep being a musician, so it would be nice to have some revenue streams for your passion. Festivals are a good payday, that's why you see so many bands that barely exist popping up in all corners of the world. The question is, if Andrew Falkous was the engine behind both bands, where do you go from here?
