Miscellaneous Music Thoughts (Oct 2019)

October 16, 2019

Iran wants war. Because if they don't start a war with their neighbors, their people will revolt.

80 million angry Shiites, like angry bees ready to attack.

In the 70's? America

In the 80's? Iraq

In the 90's? Israel

In the 00's? Syria

In the 10's? Saudi Arabia

What to do, what to do?

Bomb Iran

(The song Bomb Iran was recorded in 1980 by Vince Vance & The Valiants. I don't think that the song could be recorded today. And I don't know why the song is stuck in my head nearly 40 years after the fact. It's not like they ever play it on the radio. Should we really bomb Iran? Who's to say?)

I listened to Miles Davis' new (?!?!?) album Rubberband today.

Not very good. Luckily Davis has been dead for nearly 30 years and doesn't have to listen to the album with his name on it.

I'm not a Black Metal fan, sorry, I'm just not. But one of the most intriguing stories in all of music over the past century is the story of the Norwegian band Mayhem.

Just when you think there's no more angles to flesh out with the band, (hell, the movie of the story of the band, Lords of Chaos, came out last year, based on the book of the same name,)

this bombshell dropped right before Mayhem was due to release their 6th Full Studio Album, DaemonMayhem’s Necrobutcher: I was on my way to kill Euronymous myself

Talking about new albums, where's my new Alice Donut album?

Until then, enjoy this underrated gem from 2010's Free Electric State Single: Grain Production in the Age of Cromwell.

Is that a Baby in the Dumpster

Or is That a Burrito?

You ever wonder how the human brain works? You ever wonder how certain songs get stuck in your head for almost random reasons?

And I didn't know Keith Emerson or Greg Lake were dead. So much for an ELP reunion.

Editor's Note: A real conversation this week.

My Kid: Is there really a singer called Jay Reatard?

Me: Yes.

My Kid: Is he really retarded?

Me. No, he's dead.

The buzzards are circling Eddie Van Halen as he battles throat cancer (including David Lee Roth). You think I'm going to post my favorite Van Halen song?

 Ummm, no.
