Browns Time Capsule (Double Down)
This is fun.
Round 1 Winner: Jimmy Haslem
Cut and pasted from my own article Browns Time Capsule:
At 9:22:00 a.m. on December 18, 2017, local talk show host Tony Rizzo stated,
"take my word for it, Hugh Jackson is done."
At 9:43:10 a.m. on December 18, 2017, Tony Rizzo screamed
"Check the Tape."
Okay, so instead of admitting that he was wrong in his opinion, since it sounded like he had an inside source, Tony Rizzo doubled down today. Taking to the mic after the New Year's Holiday, Rizzo attacked Jimmy Haslem over and over. Don't get me wrong, Haslem deserves it, but Hugh Jackson is not done. He's still the coach and Rizzo's reporting was flat out wrong. Haslem had kept his word that he was keeping Jackson. Overlooking that fact, Rizzo plowed ahead.
At 10:19:00 a.m. on January 2, 2017 Rizzo bleated
"..a shock that (Jackson) is coming back."
Well of course you're shocked, you said Jackson was done. But that's fair, everyone has on OPINION. But Rizzo went on like Haslem had tricked him based on the concept of common sense. Again, I agree with Rizzo's sentiment, but being on the air for the radio home of the Cleveland Browns, you would think that he had some sort of insight that fans were not privy to in their own homes.
At 10:19:30 a.m. on January 2, 2017, Rizzo continued
"bet the under," whatever that may be 4, 4 1/2, 5. "TIMES 2."
And, instead of words, Rizzo continued on, but this time pounding the money thread.
Rizzo yelled he would "Not Renew" his season tickets.
Now it's not fair to take one thread out of the 10,000 opinions Rizzo makes a year (or 100 opinions repeated 100 times), but heck, it's amusing playing Magic 8 Ball.
Back in the Audio Version of Beacon of Speech (#6 to be exact), I kicked around Bernie Kosar going to Detroit scenarios. Now Tony Rizzo could scream "see Fred Hunt was wrong." The difference is, I don't know Kosar. I only went by tea-leafs and far away observations. I laid out possible scenarios. One of the premises of Beacon of Speech is that you have to have the freedom to discuss problems and solutions. I read a lot of articles, but I feel it's hard to be wrong WHEN YOU'RE IN THE BUILDING. If you're not in the building, but you're the Radio Home of the Browns, that should be a giant red flag.
Just by typing up this article, Rizzo has shown he has "the gift." You know, you keep on listening, even when you're peeved. In WKNR's case, it's a big win because you can name all their advertisers.
