Top 10 Songs of the Year by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

In an ambitious move that vaguely reminds me of the time that the Brian Jonestown Massacre dropped 5 albums in an 18 month period in 1995-1996, the Australian band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released 5 albums...in 2017.

They deserve appreciation for their gumption and I enjoyed going on a 5 album listening binge. With that in mind, these are my Top 10 Songs of the Year (2017) by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

10. The Book

Sounding like the soundtrack to a bad sci-fy movie, The Book is the highlight from the jazzy Sketches of Brunswick East.

9. Digital Black

A Warning from the Future. From Murder of the Universe.

8. Open Water

Suspenseful and foreboding. From Flying Microtonal Banana.

7. Greenhouse Heat Death

All kinds of guitar wizardry here. From Gumboot Soup

6. Crumbling Castle

Epic song structure. From Polygondwanaland

5. Doom City

Closest thing to a radio single that you're getting from KG&TWL. From Flying Microtonal Banana

The internet told me the live version was better. It might be right.

4. The Balrog

Personally, I'm afraid of the Balrog, and that's good songwriting. From Murder of the Universe

3. The Fourth Colour

Straight frantic energy. From Polygondwanaland

2. Beginner's Luck

Simply beautiful, even if it's about the perils of gambling. From Gumboot Soup

1 Vomit Coffin

This song is creepy, funny, and strange, all at the same time. From Murder of the Universe.

Below is my all-time favorite song by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

2016's Classic Robot Stop

(6 Albums Ago)
