The Perfect Super Bowl Halftime Show... Starring Weird Al Yankovic

Writer: Fred Fred

I know people who thought the Kendrick Lamar Halftime Show was symbolic and inspiring.

I know people who thought the Kendrick Lamar Halftime Show was terrible.

I'll tell you what it was....

Polarizing.

In my head, this is the perfect halftime show:

Weird Al steps to the stage at half time of Super Bowl LX and does a 30 second slice of Eat It, then a 30 second follow up of Fat.

As the music fades, a curtain is pulled back and Devo appears. Weird Al and Devo tear through a 2-minute version of Dare to be Stupid.

Then Al steps away to a second stage where Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone await. The three of them hit a raucous version of White and Nerdy. That song is only two and a half minutes long.

As that song ends, a stagehand gives Al an accordion and he plays one of his famous Polka Medleys in the style of NOW That's What I Call Polka!

With only 4 minutes left, the lights go out and Al switches into his Kurt Cobain shirt.

As the lights return, it's Dave Grohl on Drums, Krist Novoselic on Bass, and Al Yankovic on Vocals...

As they play a "Straight" version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, friends of the three musicians rush the stage and the song plays as a jubilant celebration of life.

There will never be a Nirvana Half Time Show, Yankovic doing Smells Like Teen Spirit might be the closest thing you're ever going to get.

Yankovic could do it. A decade ago, he went viral for doing a spot on cover of George Harrison's What is Life?

In 2018, he did a different cover song every single night during his "Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised, Vanity Tour."

All of the live cover songs from that tour created the medley found below. You can judge how good Yankovic is at cover songs.

In theory, a program with 100,000,000 viewers should have a unifying figure at its core. Before the Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar versus Drake almost had the heat of Tupac versus Biggie.

I don't know anyone who has a problem with Weird Al.

Do you?

Dumbest, most pathetic half-time show in super bowl history. Where does the NFL come up with these pathetic clowns? And there have been many other half-times shows just as bad. Can't the NFL find people who have an IQ at least above their shoe size to do these shows?
