The Trump Statue

CNN is galled that Donald Trump has apparently reached out to the governor of South Dakota to explore the possibility of being added to Mt. Rushmore.

Which got me thinking.....

Let's say Joe Biden wins in November and the Trump followers are steamed. Instead of taking to the streets though, they start building statues to Trump. Building them by the thousands. Mayors, Governors, County Commissioners, they all start using local funds to praise Donald Trump in granite. Citizens start erecting statues in their yards made out of everything from wood to gold.

And then Trump's opponents tear them down.

And then insurance pays to replace the statues.

And then Trump's opponents tear them down, again.

And then Trump's opponents are sent to jail for destruction of property.

And then there are protests in support of prisoners who destroyed Trump statues.

And then Trump's supporters build more Trump statues.

And then Trump's opponents tear them back down....

Do you see the circular nature of the argument? Now spread that across national elections.

2020: President Biden builds no statues.

2024: President Kanye builds tons of Trump statues.

2028: President Buttigieg tears all the Trump statues down.

2036: President Ivanka Trump builds back up the Trump statues.

2040: President Jeannette McCurdy tears all the Trump statues back down.

Because at some point it is not about the statue, but the reaction to the statue.

The official position of Beacon of Speech is no statues for anyone. If you HAVE to build a statue, you need to wait, A MINIMUM, of 50 years after that person dies and you better do damn good background check.

At Mammoth Cave Park in Kentucky, if I was to sneak into the caves at night and spray paint TRUMP 2020 on the cave walls, I would be arrested for vandalizing a National Park and I would go to jail.

If I snuck into the same park at night, but found some graffiti in the deepest reaches of the cave that read "Williams Jennings Bryan 1900," that is a historical find and protected by Federal Law.

The difference between graffiti and an artifact is time.
