Lead Story at CNN: Ukraine Won't Give Up Territory in East to End War
Sadly, there's a scenario that makes Zelensky's words a moot point.
What if Putin retreats his tanks to Crimea, Donetsk Oblast, Luhansk Oblast, and a land road to Crimea? If you say "so?" Well, let's take it to the next logical step.
Putin steps to the microphone in Moscow:
Just like the Americans liberated Kuwait, we have liberated the Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. We have also liberated Crimea from oppressive Ukrainian Rule. Crimea is, and always will be, part of Russia. Russia has fixed Nikita Khrushchev's bureaucratic error. Russia also needs to retain a land bridge to Crimea to aid Russian citizens that have suffered due to the special military operation.
Which I am proud to announce is OVER. Russia has beaten down the apostates!! We have liberated that which needed to be liberated, and corrected an historical wrong. The Russian Army has been heroic quelling the terrorists in Ukraine and our brave servicemen will continue to have a presence in Russian lands and those of Russian allies.
We also announce a new Russian Military base outside of Donetsk and we will continue to do military operations inside the country of our newest allies. Any incursions by the Ukrainians into sovereign Russian soil or the lands of our ancestors which have been reclaimed by our brave Russian Sons will be met with a nuclear response. Russia is a brave country which will not use restraint in its defense.
