I got a $1.29 burnin' a hole in my pocket.

I want to buy a song on iTunes and listen to it a million times.

Something New.

Let's see how that goes.

There's a single called Pumpkin by the Regrettes that's not too bad. It reminds me of good Alternative Music from 2005. The #1 song on the Alternative (iTunes) Charts today is from Halsey. That song is terrible. #2 song on the same chart? High Hopes by Panic! At the Disco. Ha! I already own it. (When I say "I", I mean my account. My teenager downloaded it and the song already has about a 100 listens. That'll be about a thousand by the end of the year.)

7 of the Top 10 Alternative Singles for the day are from Halsey or the Imagine Dragons. That can't be right, can it?

The first thing that catches my eye is that the top albums are all Metallica albums from the 80's. The #2 single on the chart is 1991's Enter Sandman. 4 of the Top 10 songs are Metallica classics.

Also on the current metal charts: Down with the Sickness? Blue on Black (by Five Finger Death Punch)? Zombie (by Bad Wolves)? What year is this? How in the hell do I have more current tastes than all of iTunes?

I remember listening to Queen's Greatest Hits on vinyl, over and over, while playing video games when I was a teenager. That would be 1982.

Top 10 songs on Rock iTunes today? I shit you not.

Bohemian Rhapsody

We Will Rock You

Somebody to Love

Radio Ga-Ga

Another One Bites the Dust

Don't Stop Me Now

We Are the Champions

Under Pressure

Fat Bottomed Girls

Killer Queen

Albums? Queen, Journey, and Elvis Presley.

New Rock? Greta Van Fleet.

I really hope the kids of today are STEALING more current music.

After leaving the Rock Section, I'm going to guess lots of Miles Davis from the 70's. Let's see...

Top Album? JEFF GOLDBLUM??????

Yes, that Jeff Goldblum, covering Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island.

(Technically the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra covering the hard parts of the Jazz Standards.)

Now I feel bad because I'm listening to Goldblum's crooning and it's really not that bad of an album. I'm just thinking that in the history of jazz, this is the top selling album today? Kind of Blue by Miles Davis was #4.

Jazz singles are littered with inexplicable entries. Don't Worry Be Happy is #5. Glenn Miller's In the Mood is #10. In the Mood was arguably the biggest single....of 1940! I think, that iTunes thinks, Jeff Goldblum is the "newest" thing in jazz.

How'd I not see this coming? #1 Soundtrack - Bohemian Rhapsody.

Let's keep moving.

Lots of Arianna Grande. While that's not my cup of tea, at least it's current.

Sam and Cat, yes, I liked that.

Sultry, tabloid fodder Grande? I'll pass on that.

Speaking of Sam and Cat, maybe I'll download the Sam and Cat Theme Song Just Fine by Backhouse Mike. Backhouse Mike?

Weird Al, of course. But surprisingly a ton of current singles. And by current singles, I mean Explicit Songs by YouTubers. I'm not saying they're explicit, that's the warning label on every song by an artist not named Yankovic.

And, speaking of explicit....

Hip Hop/Rap

Ahhh, guess where all the new music is at? Not a sniff of Big Willie Style anywhere. (On the singles chart.)

Travis Scott's (ft. Drake) Sicko Mode is smooth, new, and innovative. Watched it 3 times before I posted it. Every Hip/Hop song single is alive from either 2018 or 2019. Cardi B, Post Malone, Meek Mill, 21 Savage. All are top sellers on iTunes and all are relevant.

But slide on down the page to the Hip Hop/Rap albums chart. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, & The Notorious B.I.G., and it's back to the 1990's.

About a month ago, my current favorite metal band Puppy released an album called The Goat. I'm going off the board and buying their single Black Hole.

The scam is that Black Hole came out last summer, I already wrote about it. 4 of the songs on The Goat were out before the album was released. Some of Puppy's older songs (2016) are becoming harder to find and I suspect some ill feelings between Puppy's former label and current label Spinefarm (Universal) as the reason.

Either Black Hole or this:

The #9 Comedy Download on iTunes: Seagulls!
