Americans Are NOT Reading the Bible

"President Trump on Friday announced that he will attend a marathon reading of the Bible amid his feud with Pope Leo XIV. The group Christians Engaged listed Trump as one of many participants in the “America Reads the Bible” event, which starts Saturday evening and runs for a week...."
Stop, stop, stop.
Other than Weddings or Funerals, Donald Trump has never stepped in a Church without a camera following him. I believe the journalistic research on the Hill article is sound, but the article itself is garbage, it is nothing more than a PR ploy from the White House.
I hate to pull this card, I really do, but I had a Religious Studies Minor at Cleveland State University. I BARELY read the whole Bible, most of it is a grindingly boring read. The spirit did not move me through its pages, a lot of it is as dry as a history book.
What drove me most crazy though, and it's glossed over by Theologians, is that the Bible is loaded with contradictions and, let's be kind, overstatements.
The Bible has been referenced as the # 1 Book That You'll Never Finish Reading.
I would bet my house that Donald Trump has never read the Bible from front to back, he is a terrible role model for the most sacred book in the Christian Faith.
But I'm feeling chartable, so I'm going to review what Americans WOULD do if they actually read the Bible:
No more abortions.
No more (elective) plastic surgeries. Give that money to the poor.
No more vacation houses. Give that money to the poor.
No more season tickets to your favorite sports teams. Give that money to the poor.
No more recreational drugs, including alcohol. Give that money to the poor.
No more gambling, including lottery. Gambling is a sin.
No more pornography. Pornography is a sin......
I mean, you get the point. Love your neighbor, raise your family, work hard, and give your disposable income to the poor, pretty basic concepts. There's Ten Easily Digestible Commandments for those who prefer the CliffsNotes Version.
And, again, that's not my angle at Beacon of Speech, we are a Libertarian-leaning website. I condensed 750,000 words into a few sentences, but the Bible is pretty straight-forward when it comes to money:
Matthew 19:24 - "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
You say I'm wrong, God wants me to enjoy my money? Listen, the Prosperity Gospel is a bastardization of Christ's Teachings and is a very American Phenomenon.
According to AI, these are some of the preachers that have wrongly interpreted the Bible:
Joel Osteen: As pastor of Lakewood Church, he is arguably the most prominent contemporary figure of the prosperity gospel, preaching a message of positive thinking and God's desire to bless followers with abundance.
Kenneth Copeland: A highly influential televangelist, he is often seen as a key proponent of the "Word of Faith" movement, which teaches that faith can be used to secure financial and physical blessings.
Creflo Dollar: Known for preaching that God wants people to get rich, Dollar is a leading advocate of this theology.
Benny Hinn: Famously associated with "health and wealth" teachings, Hinn is known for his "Miracle Crusades" and promising financial prosperity in exchange for donations.
Oral Roberts: Regarded by many religious historians as the "father" of the modern prosperity gospel, his mid-20th-century ministry pioneered the connection between faith, healing, and financial prosperity.
Kenneth E. Hagin: Often considered the father of the Word of Faith movement, Hagin provided much of the theological foundation for modern prosperity teachings
Most Christians allow others to be conduits between themselves and God.
If you read the Bible yourself, you're going to realize that Americans, as a group, don't follow the Bible at all....
And the most glaring example from that group of Americans is Donald Trump.
