Earlier today, Cleveland Brown's Tight End David Njoku announced on social media that he was leaving the team in free agency:

Many Cleveland Publications were quick to point out that David Njoku was second, statistically, only to Hall of Famer Ozzy Newsome-

Stop right there.

For 9 seasons, David Njoku was fools gold.

This was an average game for David Njoku: 2 great catches, 1 catch for no yards, 1 inexplicable drop that hit him in the hands, and lots of no blocking.

This was an average season for David Njoku: 12 games played, 5 games injured.

You think I'm being a jerk?

Njoku had 384 catches in 118 games. 3.25 catches a game was hardly prolific.

He averaged 13.1 games played a season over his career.

Ozzie Newsome, on the other hand, had 90 catches in 2 different seasons, and 2 seasons with over a thousand yards receiving. When Newsome's numbers started to fall off late in his career, he was still a prolific blocker. Newsome also played every game of the season in 10 of his 13 seasons in the NFL. Ozzie was the gold standard of tight ends in the NFL.

David Njoku being the Browns' "second best tight end of all time" was more an indictment on the Browns' terrible decision making processes than any indication of Njoku's greatness.

David Njoku only had 40 less catches than the 3rd round TE that the Browns drafted from Bowling Green last year, Harold Fannin Jr.

In a year that Browns receivers, on a whole, did terrible, Njoku had about the same amount of catches as RB Dylan Sampson.....

Who?
