Donald Trump: Single Handedly Keeping the Daily Beast's Doors Open

Back in May of 2009: 'Rush Limbaugh declared "The 30-Day Challenge." publicly challenging (MSNBC) to go for 30 days without mentioning his name, playing his video, or having guests comment on him, to "see if they can survive on their own.'"

Now MSNBC did survive, but not of its own accord. MSNBC, and sister-station CNBC, were always subsidized by corporate parents NBC and General Electric. Earlier this year at Politico, they asked if MSNBC could survive on its own, without the purse-strings attached to NBC. The answer was, in an era in which cable television is dying, a lukewarm "no."

Why lukewarm? Because MSNBC is betting on streaming.

That is a poor, poor bet. When I stream Pluto or Tubi, I get a hundred free news options, from local stations to fringe news outlets I've never heard of. If MSNBC (and CNBC), go all in on streaming, they will cease to exist in 3 years, no one is going to pay for that. (Or they will be gobbled up by another entity, maybe they're HOPING to become a extension of Peacock.)

But the money quote at the end of the Politico Article was this: "And as long as the broader Trump Show spins out of control, MSNBC will have regular fodder to keep viewers entranced."

So with that quote circulating through my brain, I surfed over to the Daily Beast this morning.

Wow.

Daily Beast Screen Shot: Black Friday - 10:00 AM

7 lead articles about Trump from 6 different angry, young male, liberals. What about from the Black Experience? You would think diversity would be in action, where's the woman's perspective on Trump? Where's Eleanor Clift when you need her?

I'm being serious here. Back in March, the Daily Beast warned that "Nazi Trump was going to round up reporters and put them in concentration camps." 6 months later, the same website is decrying Trump's use of really, really, not nice words.

The Daily Beast is hardly in danger of being shut down by Donald Trump, I would argue the exact opposite. Donald Trump is single-handedly keeping the website open.

I mean, what happens when the Trump Show goes away? The Daily Beast is an independent entity, they don't have a corporate Sugar-Daddy to keep their doors open. As a matter of fact, 70% of their unionized staff took buyouts last year. What will they write about when Donald Trump is gone? The JD Vance Boogeyman doesn't generate clicks. The Marjorie Taylor Greene Boogeyman might be going away-

Editor's Note: She's not.

The Daily Beast better start delineating what they believe in, instead of what they're against, real fast. I don't think the website can exist without Donald Trump to kick around.

Addendum: 1 Hour Later...

Our least favorite writer in America is either the USA Today's Rex Huppke or The New Republic's Michael Tomasky. Why? Because they are both partisan, lefty hacks.

I clicked on this story at the Drudge Report: There’s No Doubt About It: The Great MAGA Crack-Up Has Begun. Author? Michael Tomasky.

I am going to reiterate this again now, you really should shift your Website Aggregator to Whatfinger.
