Last week, we were just writing about Sir Paul McCartney approaching 80 and I thought to myself, "how old is too old?"
Now I remember BB King was 88 and still performing the blues, but in my head, the physically demanding part of King's job was playing the guitar. King had long ago abandoned standing for a comfy chair, but he still had to endure the long grind of touring.
Earlier this week, I had apparently lingered too long on a Facebook page called Colouring the Past which was playing the Franki Valli and the Four Season's song December 1963.
I had heard that Franki Valli was still touring, so I googled that and, sure enough, he's touring southern states today and will be in Europe over the summer.
Frankie Valli is 87.
But now the floodgates are open and the omnipresent Facebook sponsors want me to go see the Jefferson Starship. Wait a minute, the Starship? I saw them 20 years ago at a county fair and they were awful. I think they were down to 2 original members and they had a touring couch for members to sit on when the got winded. (Seriously.)
Apparently 83 year old David Freiberg is leading the Jefferson Starship these days. C'mon, I'm not going to see that. You say the Starship has a new album Mother of the Sun?
I don't care.
Facebook also suggests that I go see Mötley Crüe, (you don't want to know how old those guys are) and Def Leppard (they obviously missed my quote that they've sucked since Pyromania, almost 40 years ago.)
Listen, I did buy tickets to see Ministry, but they're not that old. They are performing The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste in its entirety.
