Is Rolling Stone Taking Unfair Advantage of the LGBT Movement?

Every June, the largest corporations in America change their logos to the rainbow and pretend like they've been allies for years and years.

They haven't.

But you're probably countering that Beacon of Speech hasn't changed their logo for June.

That's right, we haven't.

We don't change the Beacon for any reason. We briefly considered changing the Beacon of Speech Facebook Icon to all black when Norm McDonald died, but we didn't. We don't like to pander to anyone, good causes or bad causes.

Beacon of Speech embraces Free Speech. We have free speech and the LGBT Movement has free speech. I wouldn't necessarily say that we are allies.

With that being said though, we are heavily leaning toward voting for Libertarian Chase Oliver in the Fall Presidential Election. Chase Oliver is currently the highest polling Gay Candidate. Would we vote for Oliver specifically because of his sexual orientation? No. We'd vote for him because his Libertarian values most align with ours.

My wife considers herself an active ally-

Where are we going with this?

I was at RollingStone.com and saw this article: Pride Month Is Here, But You Can Support These 45+ LGBTQ-Owned Businesses Year-Round!

"Supporting the LGBTQ community shouldn't begin and end during Pride Month — here are some of the best queer-owned brands and business to support year-round."

And, BAMM, pay wall.

Now, to me, that's funny as hell. Rolling Stone used to be the counter-culture, now it's the corporate culture. So I have to pay to see the best LGBT-owned businesses? We are never paying for Rolling Stone.

Then, where the pay wall ends, it states: "If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission."

Let me get this straight. You have to pay Rolling Stone to see the article, then Rolling Stone gets a commission if you buy something? That doesn't sound like promoting the LGBT culture, that sounds like exploiting the LGBT culture. Who's to say that the companies in question didn't have to pay to get on the list in the first place?

In 2017, Jann Wenner sold his stake in Rolling Stone and the new guard quickly purged their ranks and began hiring a stable of young, woke writers. In 2023, Jann Wenner made some unwise comments and did the writers of Rolling Stone jump to his defense? They did not. (But Spin did.) When Wenner tried to defend himself, he had to go to the New York Times as his platform. Today, Wenner has absolutely zero input into how Rolling Stone is run. Z-E-R-O.

Hey LGBT NATION, the new and improved Rolling Stone welcomes you to Capitalism 101.

Do you prefer your allies taking advantage of you like Rolling Stone, or companies like WalMart pretending to have PRIDE?
