Is the Victory Cigar in Danger?
It was an historic day in the SEC:
(1) Georgia lost to Auburn
(6) Alabama lost to Tennessee
(7) Texas lost to Florida
It is almost unprecedented that so many SEC Top 10 teams lost in the same day. But let's focus on the Tennessee game for right now. Tennessee wasn't some heavy underdog, they were ranked # 14 in the country and had recent success at home against the Crimson Tide. Alabama were only 7 point favorites on many betting lines. Many Volunteer Fans were confident for their team's success despite the odds.
With about 2 minutes left, it was evident that Tennessee was going to pull the upset and ABC loaded the broadcast with crowd shots. Then I noticed lit cigars, lit cigars, and even more lit cigars.
Yes I was aware of "The Cigar Game," but usually the network pans away from fans behaving badly. As the game ended, ABC quickly cut away from a Tennessee Fan giving the camera the alternate, double number one salute, but other than that, the network relished in the Tennessee Victory.
The light show
The fireworks
The storming of the field
And lit cigars everywhere, mostly in checkboard orange
Even caught a shot of a player smoking a post-victory cigar.
Listen, I'm not some prude, I applaud ABC for holding the crowd's victory shot. I'm just saying that somewhere, ABC is feeling some heat.
Over at Netflix, smoking gets your series at PG-13 rating. Many other streamers have similar ratings for smoking content.
I'm simply calling my shot. I GUARANTEE YOU, ABC will be in the news by Tuesday for so many active smoking shots.
