Media Whore Phoebe Bridgers -or- Top 10 Songs About Abortion

Yesterday, folk musician Phoebe Bridgers was spouting off about her abortion at CNN.

Dammit, it's not that hard of a concept. If you have a powerful story about abortion, and you're a MUSICIAN, please write a SONG about it, don't run to the press and advertise your position. Phoebe Bridgers loves to talk about politics, she doesn't love creating great music.

With that, we give you the Top 10 Songs About Abortion

10. Here Today Guano Tomorrow by the Dayglo Abortions

This song isn't about abortion at all, but I'm putting the song on the list because of the band name. Always controversial, in 1990 the Dayglo Abortions were deemed not obscene in a Canadian Court of Law. (Yes there was a trial.) Specifically their Feed us a Fetus and Here Today Guano Tomorrow albums.

Abortion Good of Bad? Surprisingly the band has given their stance on Abortion and it's more thought out than you might think. "I don’t think (abortion) is an acceptable form of birth control. You need to be more responsible than that. But at the same time, it’s a woman’s body and a woman’s choice." - Murray the Cretin via Vice

9. The Future by Leonard Cohen

This is a fantastic song from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack back in the 90's. I found out the song was about abortion doing research for this article.

Abortion Good or Bad? According to this thread on Reddit, Abortion is Symbolism?

8. Get Your Gunn by Marilyn Manson

Apparently this song is about some pro-lifers that killed OB-GYN David Gunn.

Abortion Good or Bad? According to Evan Rachel Wood, Manson "didn't care" about her abortion.

7. Children Can Live (Without It) by DC Talk

This song is a little too rappy, a little too preachy, and a little too dated, but for some reason it seems to resonate with half the country considering the topic.

Abortion Good or Bad? Oh, I am confident that Christian Rockers DC Talk are very, very much against abortion.

6. Goose Walking Over My Grave by Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots

I wish I could unhear this song. It is rare that a story on vinyl is so unnerving.

Abortion Good or Bad? Irrelevant. Things are different in the country.

5. At Conception by Cursive

Why did I even think writing this article was a good idea? Almost as disturbing as the Munly song.

Abortion Good or Bad? What a dark, dark song. After listening to it, you could make the case both for, and against, abortion.

4. Potter's Field by Anthrax

"This song is about abortion. It tells of the anger of a son towards his mother. The son is angry because she hadn’t aborted him, her illegitimate son, because of her religion. He then grew up with a mother who was too young to parent and his life ended up being a disaster. Potter’s field is a cemetery for unknown or poor people." - Genius

Abortion Good or Bad? Don't forget, the ex-lead singer of Anthrax, John Bush, was in the Christian Metal band Armored Saint, so it's really hard to tell the band's position from this song alone.

3. Abortion by Doug E. Fresh

Yo, my fellow teenagers, don't kill that baby.

Abortion Good or Bad? An upbeat rap against abortion.

2. Sara by Fleetwood Mac

Under no metric is Don Henley a good dude, just a talented one. One version of the story of Sara is that it's Stevie Nicks' unborn child.

Abortion Good or Bad? We are not fans of Don Henley here at Beacon of Speech. After Nicks' abortion, Henley went on to be worth a quarter of a billion dollars and Nicks is worth around $100 million. So in this specific case, an abortion was a monetary investment.

1. Brick by Ben Folds Five

Told from a first hand point of view, it's the sad, depressing story of Ben Folds and his high school girlfriend, deciding to get an abortion.

Abortion Good or Bad? Uggh. Article Over-

You say Papa Don't Preach? Uh, no, Madonna's gonna keep that baby.

Abortion is all over the news due to the impending Supreme Court decision. Our position as a libertarian leaning website is that we are pro-choice. In the Constitution, gun ownership is explicitly spelled out. The right to an abortion is IMPLIED. How do I figure? Because the abortion argument is fundamentally a dispute between who has more rights, The Mother or The Unborn Child. But also as a libertarian, I would be all right with abolishing 3/4 of the Federal Laws and returning the power to the State or Local level. Technically abortion should be a State's Rights issue.

At CNN: Conservatives Held Our Noses and Voted for Trump. Reversing Roe Would Be Our Reward.

You know why you had to hold your nose? Because Trump was, and still is, a populist. Donald Trump-

Editor's Note: I said THE END.
