Back in August we predicted the finish of the Premier League 2025-2026 season, 1 through 20. Before we were done, we had Nottingham Forest at 18th and relegated. What was our rationale?

"Any last comments? Evangelos Marinakis will melt down and Nottingham's fairy tale season will be a distant memory. Look for 5 managers at Nottingham this year. Manchester United will be average, but at this point they are just shoveling money into a hole."

Evangelos Marinakis ruined Nottingham after it was promoted. How can I make such an outlandish statement about a team that finished 7th last year? Because as soon as Nottingham was promoted, Marinakis replaced absolutely everyone with high priced mercenaries. That can work for the very short term, it doesn't work over the long term. If you continue to churn personnel, it doesn't take long for turnover to catch up with you. Marinakis' goal was playing in the Champions League at the end of this season. He doesn't have enough money for that.

Predicting the finish of the Premier League is fairly simple each year. You look at who spends the most money, and they usually win.

This year, Nottingham is 9th in spending so, in theory, they should have been an average team.

Since buying the team in 2017, Marinakis had burned through 9 managers at the beginning of the season.

So, as a lark, I thought to myself "which owner is most likely to have an epic level tantrum if expectations weren't met?" Since Marinakis' were too high, he went to the top of the list.

Now I'm not some sort of soothsayer, I just modeled my prediction off of Schalke in the Bundesliga when it burned through 5 managers in 2020 before being relegated.

Do I want to back off my prediction now that Sean Dyche has been hired? Heck no, I'm already 3/5 of the way there. Financial Fair Play rules won't let Marinakis dig out of the hole he's created.

Now you can say that I'm a nobody blogger, my opinion doesn't matter. That's a more than fair criticism. But oddly, Nottingham was on the receiving end of some ruthless trolling from....
