The New Radicals are Not Cool

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

I am a big fan of theme songs, so when Joe Biden claimed that "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals was his family's anthem, I cringed.

The New Radicals were a group of douchebags who recorded one album, became the very definition of a one hit wonder, and then disappeared into the ether. In that one hit, lead singer Gregg Alexander took a run at Marilyn Manson and Manson replied, in real life, "I think I'll crack (Alexander's) skull open if I see him."

When I am able to pay royalties for the webcast, Marilyn Manson's 1996 is one of 3 songs I am considering as this site's theme song.

Again, I am not talking politics. I am talking music. What New Radical lyrics inspired Joe Biden? He doesn't remember. What Manson lyrics inspired me?

I can't believe in the things / That don't believe in me

Addendum Feb. 1, 2021:

Uh-oh, it appears that Mr. Brian Warner has found himself in a heap of trouble.

We're a free speech site here, let's test some speech boundaries, shall we? I was a huge Marilyn Manson fan right from the beginning, starting with Portrait of an American Family, right up until 2007's Eat Me, Drink Me release. I listened to the lead single Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand), inspired by Evan Rachel Wood, and immediately fell out of love with Manson's music.

No matter whether an athlete, musician, or actor, many professions are simply for the young and many artists end up losing "it" with age. On the pages of CNN, Manson decried "Columbine Destroyed my Career." No, Evan Rachel Wood destroyed your career if she was your muse. If her allegations are true, Manson needs to be held accountable.

But what does that even mean? You don't hear Manson's music on terrestrial radio. He's over 50 and basically a legacy act. The D.A. didn't find enough evidence to prosecute in 2018. Because

Manson's nomenclature is inspired by a serial killer, there is a real reason to suspect there could be a gray area here between rape and regret. If the statute of limitations is up, what is the end game here?

Woods wants to warn young ladies that this guy is dangerous and a menace?

At some point you have to ask yourself, "maybe you can judge a book by its cover."

Addendum (Same Day/PM):

I just read my TENTH article about Marilyn Manson.

I am not sure what these women thought they were getting into.

Manson was a bad boy rock star. Even your Grandma knew to avoid Manson. "Hey Grandma, what do you know about Marilyn Manson."

Grandma: "Oh, he's evil and probably does a pile of drugs. You have to watch out for people like that."

HE WROTE A SONG CALLED THE MAN THAT YOU FEAR.

I am debating whether to just walk away from the subject, or to try to make a comparison between Manson/Wood and Depp/Heard because of the Hollywood Vampires connection....
