The Google Game (Democrat Edition)

Writer's picture: FredFred

Tulsi Gabbard was complaining about her campaign being censored by Google on the Blaze. In only one sentence, I already had 2 questions:

  1. Is Tulsi Gabbard still running?

  2. Why does the Blaze care about Tulsi Gabbard?

Well, let's disregard both questions and try to focus on Google. I've been noticing lately myself that Google has been doing some wonky things when searching certain topics. Let's play a simple game and google each one of the (Dem) candidates and see where Google leads us.

Joe Biden

What is underreported in the media is that Joe Biden's son Hunter is a scumbag.

Corn Pop? I don't even want to know.

Really. Not even curious.

Elizabeth Warren

Seems like reasonable Search Engine results.

Bernie Sanders

Nothing striking here.

Pete Buttigieg

I assume I keep getting Cleveland searches because I'm in the Cleveland area.

Kamala Harris

Maybe Gabbard is paranoid?

Beto O'Rourke

Yeah, Google knew what I meant.

Andrew Yang

Full Disclosure: Even I'm curious about the $1,000 a month.

Cory Booker

Now the results are getting a little dicier. Top searches are Dropping Out, Wife, Rosario Dawson, & Girlfriend. No wonder dropping out is trending, Cory Booker is a busy man.

Amy Klobuchar

I didn't even know how to spell Klobuchar's name.

Julian Castro

So far, this is Beacon of Speech's most boring article ever.

Finally....

Tulsi Gabbard & Google? Apparently the Gabbard campaign is suing Google for $50 million. How did I find the link? Through Google. I get Gabbard ads on my Facebook page.

I'm a Tulsi Gabbard fan. To the naked eye, I'm not seeing a grand conspiracy. Sadly, Free Speech seems to be the victim of....

ALGORITHMS?

"While some assume that Google is doing this with malicious intent, the truth seems to be far more dull: the company’s algorithms are doing much of the censorship, lifting up or dragging down certain websites based on a computer program’s assessment of a set of unknown variables.

It is true that most computer algorithms reflect the biases of their creators. But considering that voices from both the left and the right have been quasicensored by Google’s algorithms, it seems safe to say that more is going on than just political preference.

But because Google is a private company, it is not obligated to share specifics about how its operations work."- The Toledo Blade

Tom Steyer

Yeah, one of the searches should have been: Tom Steyer dropping out of race.

Michael Bennet

If you can't out-poll a defensive tackle, you should get out of the race.

And just for fun, 2 bonus searches:

Donald Trump

Donald Trump & Michael Jackson????

I don't even want to know.

Bill Weld

And on that note, I'm going to bed.
