How Fast Food Giants Screwed Up Breakfast

10 years ago, I started my job at the local school district.
Due to the early hours in the morning, and acid reflux issues in the evening, Breakfast became my go-to meal. The problem is, locally, ordering breakfast has become a disaster.
McDonald's - When I was younger, I ate McDonald's breakfast religiously. It was fast, it was cheap. You know, the definition of fast food. Then, about 5 years ago, I once waited in line for 20 minutes, spent $10 on a Bagel Meal, and when I opened it up, it tasted like hot garbage. I quit McDonald's for Breakfast cold turkey. A few months back, I saw a commercial for an Egg McMuffin Meal for $5 and have ordered a few of those since. When it comes to taste, McDonald's is the WORST Breakfast option.
Taco Bell - Taco Bell actually has a pretty good breakfast menu. But as they continue to dominate the 9 PM to 2 AM pothead market, many stores are dropping breakfast options. Last year, our local store changed their opening time to 9 AM with no breakfast. (Sir, you are more than welcome to order one of our taco options.)
Subway - When it comes to healthy choices, no one beats Subway. You can get get eggs and all your favorite veggies on a 6 inch, toasted loaf. The problem? They rolled back their hours to 9 AM and every time I go in before 11 AM, I get attitude, like, "what are you doing here?"
Wendy's - Wendy's breakfast was okay, but it's now a moot point. Corporate Wendy's are rolling back their hours and some Franchisees are discontinuing breakfast all together.
Burger King - Our # 1 option is: French Toast Sticks, Potato Bites, and Cola. It's a tasty breakfast for only $5. But last week, the local Franchisee said they were rolling back their opening hours to 9 AM. Corporate Burger Kings have reiterated their commitment to breakfast.
Laredo Taco - I am going to tell you what, the secret to the goodness of Laredo Taco is that they make the flour tortilla right in front of you. Laredo Taco, in the past 5 years, has provided me both the best, and the worst, breakfast burrito I have ever tasted. Their service, and commitment to quality, is wildly inconsistent.
Panera - Their food tastes excellent, better than anyone else, bar none. But every time I eat there, there is always an issue with service, I feel like I was ripped off (cost), and about an hour later, I'm hungry for a second breakfast.
Sheetz - I eat at Sheetz more often than I'd like to admit. Not sure if Sheetz is average fast food, or excellent gas station food.
Chick-Fil-A - If price wasn't a concern, Chick-Fil-A would be my top choice. They always have great service and I am always very satisfied with the food. Unfortunately, the nearest Chick-Fil-A is prohibitively far away for breakfast.
You say I am omitting some very popular chains, like Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts? Listen, my standards are really low. Where's my line? If the drive thru line is so long that I have to wait on the street just to get into an establishment's parking lot, I don't eat there.
And I don't like coffee.
My daughter briefly worked at Dunkin Donuts, she did not like it.
I will end the droning with this brief Abbott and Costello Scene from about a week after she was hired.
Me: "How do you like making donuts?"
Daughter: "What do you mean?"
Me: "You work at Dunkin Donuts, how do you like making donuts?"
Daughter: "We don't make the donuts."
Me: "What do you mean? What about the commercial?"
Daughter: "What commercial?"
Me: "Forget it. You sell donuts, right?"
Daughter: "Right."
Me: "What happens when you run out of donuts?"
Daughter: "We're out of donuts."
Me: "You just say 'we're out of donuts?'"
Daughter: "Yes."
Me: "Don't customers get mad?"
Daughter: "Usually."
Me: "How do you get more donuts?"
Daughter: "The truck comes at specific times and brings in more donuts."
Me: "A-ha, now we're getting somewhere. Does the truck come from another Dunkin Donuts or does it come from a warehouse?"
Daughter: "I don't know. We're kind of in the dark as to where the donuts come from. Now coffee, we're never allowed to run out of coffee. If we run out of coffee, it's an emergency...."
