Jimmy Kimmel = Roseanne Barr

You can draw a straight line from Lenny Bruce in the 1960's to Jimmy Kimmel today.

In the modern history of comedy, I can't think of one comedian that should have been cancelled or banned.

Let me put this in all caps: NOT ONE.

But with that being said, when Roseanne Barr was being cancelled by ABC, Jimmy Kimmel didn't stand up for her. He let his network cancel a comedian based off of cultural norms. Now Kimmel is crying free speech when the same exact corporate network is doing the same thing to him, based off of a different set of cultural norms. Too Late for Kimmel.

They Tried to Cancel Carlin in the 1970's

They Tried to Cancel Richard Pryor in the 1980's

They Tried to Cancel the Diceman in the 1990's.

They Tried to Cancel Sam Kinison in the 1990's.

They Tried to Cancel David Cross in the 2000's.

They Tried to Cancel Dave Chappell in the 2010's.

They Actually Cancelled Roseanne Barr in the 2010's.

Why do I stick up for comedians in almost all cases? Because comedians are a bellwether for society. When a bunch of woke idiots cancelled Roseanne Barr, the country had lurched too far to the Left. Way too far.

Now the Right wants to cancel White Bread Jimmy Kimmel? There is an overcorrection going on right now.

I mean, Barr and Kimmel are almost a direct comparisons, one is a right-wing comic, one left, while both shaved off their rough edges and earned their millions at the ABC Corporate Teat.

But in the comedy world, like in the real world, little tribes of comedians think that their brand of comedy is important, few defend the big picture of the art form or of Free Speech itself... except for when the Reaper comes for them.

Who is "THEY" in all the YouTube videos above? Ah...It depends on the year and it depends on the culture.

My favorite comedy album of all time? Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer.

Leary's comedy was problematic for a different reason.

C'mon Fred Hunt, there HAS to be a comedian that you wished got banned-

Okay, you got me.

Way, way back in 2018, we wrote the article Nazis Are Bad about comedian Hannah Gadsby.

Here is our money quote: "Apparently (Gadsby) is revolutionizing comedy by not being funny, but by being political with funny observational moments. Which is basically what everyone is doing now. But she's considering quitting comedy because of its exploitative nature. She's at the edge because society is a horrible, mean place for marginalized populations and she's willing to chuck it all away."

Believe it or not, (they) thought Donald Trump was a Nazi.

But instead of writing that (they) should be banned, I just let (them) fade away, just like I knew (they) would.

As a matter of fact, I thought (they) had moved on from show business.

Ignoring Gadsby, since I'm rarely on Netflix, has been super easy to do. More people should simply ignore comedians they don't like instead of banning them.

Usually the marketplace sorts out bad comedy.

Which is why Stephen Colbert, whose show was bleeding money, is out of a job.

And you're going to find out Kimmel's show was bleeding money too.

If either comedian had Johnny Carson's Ratings, their executive bosses would have stood by them. Painting Trump as the scapegoat is easier than firing your own guy.
