Okay Dummies, Let Me Explain the 22nd Amendment to You

Writer: Fred Fred

"Representative Andy Ogles, a Tennessee Republican, has proposed a resolution to amend the U.S. Constitution that would allow presidents to serve a third term under certain conditions..."

C'mon now, people aren't that stupid, are they? Apparently, they are.

Trump Wants a Third Term Articles:

Newsweek (Above Quote)

Now here's the catch. The way Ogles worded the amendment, Trump could run for a third term, but not Obama, Bush, or Clinton.

Such a partisan stunt isn't going to gain traction, but..

Right now, today, Donald Trump's approval rating is 47%, not that far off from the 49.8% of voters who cast their ballots for him in the presidential election.

Even if the 3rd Term Amendment started to get traction, those numbers aren't going to amount to squat. But if you tweak the language so ANYONE could run for a third term, not just Donald Trump, a lot of rabid Trump supporters would get on board, but so would a lot of Barack Obama supporters.

Could Trump and Obama supporters join forces to hit the two-thirds majority needed to get such an amendment passed? That would be the ultimate irony, kind of like the Beast Games, two adversaries joining forces so one gets voted out of the game.

But here's the question: Who would win in a Donald Trump vs. Barack Obama 2028 Faceoff?

If you're a Trump supporter, you are of course screaming TRUMP!

And if you're an Obama supporter, you are of course screaming OBAMA!

Here's the problem. In a one versus one match, I think most of the casual and independent voters in the middle would swing to Obama.

In 2028, Obama will be 67 years old and rested.

Trump will be 82 years old and may, feasibly, have to fend off an 82-year-old George W Bush in the Republican primaries.

And this is very underreported. Who, ultimately, convinced Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 Presidential Race? Right now, fingers point to Nancy Pelosi. But what if it was, in fact, Barack Obama himself that pushed Biden out of the race? What if Obama is the shadowy string-puller in the Democrat Party? If Obama still has his hands in the party mechanisms, it wouldn't be hard for him to get the party in line for a presidential run.

You're a Trump Supporter and really, really, really, really want that third term for Trump?

Are you confident you could beat Barack Obama in 2028?

Not a smart bet.

I was about to hit the publish button, when I re-read my words for the last time.

I have to clarify; I am not a Barack Obama Fan.

I have never voted for Barack Obama.

I have rarely written about Barack Obama. (One Notable Exception: Supreme Court Justice Barack Obama.

But there are many casual voters out there, not engaged in the political process, that yearn for a simpler time, like when Obama bulldozed McCain in the 2008 election. When politics "appeared" nicer, at least on the surface.

All I am saying is that overturning the 22nd Amendment will not go the way that the Republicans want.

Sadly, for partisan hacks on both sides of the aisle, they have trouble grasping laws that apply to everyone.
