When I think of famous Pot-Heads, these are the Top 5 I think of:
Snoop Dogg: From the Cannabis Museum in Amsterdam - "When you think of Snoop Dogg, several things likely come to mind: his iconic music, laid-back demeanour, and unapologetic love for cannabis. As one of the most influential figures in hip-hop culture, Snoop Dogg has not only shaped the music industry but has also become a prominent advocate for cannabis legalisation and destigmatisation. In this blog post, we’ll explore Snoop Dogg’s journey as a cultural icon and his unwavering passion for cannabis."
Willie Nelson: A tear welled up in my Libertarian Eye watching this PSA -
Tommy Chong: From 80 year old Tommy Chong...7 years ago!
Bob Marley: I think I knew Bob Marley loved pot by his black-light marijuana flags before I knew what his hits were -
Ricky Williams: Ricky Williams was first suspended from playing football for smoking pot in his junior year of college at the University of Texas. He has gone on to be one of the most outspoken marijuana advocates in all of sports.
What's my point?
I was over at the USA Today earlier and saw this headline: Cannabis helped me after my NFL career. It can help more people if Trump reclassifies it. | Opinion
Wow, I wonder who wrote that article? (Eye roll). Sure, enough, it was Ricky Williams.
But it's a bit insincere to chose Williams to write a story about weed, it's like asking a televangelist to write about Jesus. I'm not saying that anything in the Williams story is patently false, I'm just saying if he was smoking pot as a teen, he wasn't using it for pain management.
There is a real benefit for athletes using marijuana for pain management, this is from the New York Times, just 2 years ago....
You know the last athlete the Times quoted at the end of their story? Ricky Williams.
There are few love stories as enduring as Williams' relationship with pot.
Should Donald Trump reclassify the drug? As a libertarian-leaning website, we support that, but we don't support reclassifying any drug based off of the opinions of artists, celebrities, or football players.
For a very brief time in the 1990's, I was a member of the APA (American Psychological Association). As of 2024, this was their stance: "Research on (marijuana) is needed more than ever as rates of cannabis use in the United States continue to climb. In 2022, more than 42.3 million people 12 and older reported using cannabis in the past month—more than double the number compared with a decade earlier, according to data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services."
That's good enough for me.
Disclaimer: I do not smoke pot or use edibles. I am very aware of people in my life that do.
What is my passion that equals Williams' for marijuana?
<sigh>
