The Atlantic is Garbage

Earlier today, The Atlantic posted this propagandist gem:

As a free-speech website, that comment cuts us to our very core.

Let us say this, yet again.

There is no "correct" way to do comedy. The Atlantic believes in the Left-leaning Corporate Comedy of Meyers/Kimmel/Colbert. Now Jimmy Fallon, he gets a pass from me, he mostly is about comedy. The other three? They're the same political-style comedian.

I said it years ago, Seth Meyers should have been replaced with Lilly Singh, Jimmy Kimmel should have been replaced with Eric Andre, and Stephan Colbert should have been replaced with John Leguizamo. There should have been more different voices on TV.

What has the Atlantic's panties in a bunch, specifically today? Apparently "Right-leaning" comedians are making a resurgence. This is the money quote from David Frum: (We) discuss why some comedians seem to go right-wing and why a growing audience is drawn to their uninformed rhetoric."

Uninformed rhetoric? Comedy is not a dissertation. Comedy is not literally factual. Comedy is supposed to make you think, comedy, most importantly, is supposed to make you laugh.

Again, very slowly:

there....

is...

no....

"correct"....

way....

to....

do....

comedy.

Comedians are a good bellwether for society. Back in the day, George Carlin was considered a Leftist. Now? His comedy sounds downright Libertarian. George Carlin didn't change, society changed. There should be all types of comedians, there should be a huge market in the ability to make people laugh.

When you attack any comedian, you attack free speech.

It is your right not to like any comedian. Unpopular opinion here, but we didn't like the beloved Robin Williams. We never thought he should be banned, we just didn't like him. We avoided Robin Williams as his comedy evolved from cutting-edge to cringy.

And that should be your attitude with any comedian.

Who do we like?

Just last month, we released: Top 20 Comedy Albums of All Time. The list was entirely populated by who we liked.

When the Atlantic questions the rise in Right Wing Comedy, our reply would be: Why did the Left seemingly dominate comedy for the last decade?

Bill Burr was considered a right-wing comic when he attacked "woke culture," then, all of a sudden, he delivers zingers to Donald Trump and now he's a left-wing influencer?

ree

The Atlantic wants to educate comedians? Comedians should educate the stuffed shirts at the Atlantic.
